“Technology” is introduced as a new stream into the Advanced Level subject streams

Technology is introduced as a new stream into the Advanced Level subject streamsThe Minister of Education Mr. Bandula Gunawardana stated that in addition to the subject streams, Arts, Science, Mathematics and Commerce, the stream of Technology will also be added to G. C. E. (Advanced Level) curriculum, from 2013.

The minister expressed this while attending a special press briefing at the ministry of education, on 22.01.2013.

Out of the total number of students admitted to the grade one of the schools each year, only 25,000 qualify to be enrolled in the universities in Sri Lanka and for those who do not qualify for higher education, at the Ordinary Level and Advanced Level examinations, the opportunities will be created to obtain recognized diplomas, higher diplomas, degrees and post graduate degrees through this inclusion, the minister further stated.

Attending to this occasion, the Minister of Higher Education Mr. S.B.Dissanayaka said that every measure has been taken to provide all infrastructure facilities to follow all university courses in English medium with the intention of modernizing higher education courses to suit the modern employment market in the world and it is possible through this to direct the children of the nation for well paid employment opportunities.

The secretary of the Ministry of Education Mr. S.M. Gotabhaya Jayarathna said that along with the introduction of new technology subject stream at the Advanced Level, the number of courses that can be followed at the universities has been increased in 2013, and the measures needed for opening of new vistas for the children of the nation have already been taken.

A large number of gathering participated in this occasion including the monitoring MP for the Ministries of Youth Affairs and Skills Development and Education Mr. Mohan Lal Grero, Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education Dr.Sunil Jayantha Nawarahtna, the Chairman of the National Education Commission professor Lakshman Jayathilaka, Director General of the University Grants Commission professor Gamini Samaranayaka, Director General of the National Institute of Education Mr. Abeyrathna Bandara and professor Dayantha Wijesekara.
