Kalugamthota Piriven awakening educational exhibition held with the patronage of the Ministry of Education in parallel to the National Piriven Day is at Kande Viharaya, Aluthgama

Kaluganthota Piriven awakening educational exhibition – 2018 organized collectively by the Ministry of Education, Pirivena Heads’ Association of Kalutara District and the District Secretariat of Kalutara in parallel to the National Piriven Day is scheduled to be held at the historical Kande Viharaya, Aluthgama.   

This exhibition will be held from 14 to 19 of June and each day has been named as follows. The first day (14)  as Thripitaka Dhamma, Science and Hygiene Day, the second day (15) as Sinhala and Tamil Languages Day, the third day (16) as Pali and Computer Day, Fourth day (17) as Sanskrit and History Day and the Fifth day (18) as English and Mathematics Day. Special lectures relevant to each day, programs and several meritorious activities have been organized for each day.

The Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam says that the objective of the Ministry of Education is to make the children of the nation to be passionate with reading. The minister expressed this idea while participating in the inaugural function of the Sustainable Reading Promotional Program ‘Kalana Mithuru Poth Sumithuru’ 2018 – 2019 which was held today (6) at the premises of the ministry of education according to a concept of his own. The minister points out that the habituation of reading to a young society which is in the risk of becoming addicted to various bad habits and unholy activities is really a revolutionary concept.

Ending of the first school term and commencing of the second school term of the year 2018

First school term of Sinhala and Tamil medium government schools and government approved schools will end on Friday the 06th of April 2018 and the second school term will commence on Monday the 23th of April 5 2018.

For Muslim schools, the first school term will end on Wednesday the 11th of April 2018 and the first stage of the second school term will commence on Wednesday the 18th of April 2018.

A new dress code for pregnant teachers

Based on a concept of the Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam the Ministry of Education has taken steps to give an opportunity for expectant teachers who are engaged in teaching and learning process in the school system to come to school wearing a comfortable dress when they come for the duties. It is scheduled to hold its inaugural national program tomorrow (24) under the patronage of the minister at the Ministry of Education.  

Doctors had informed the minister of education about the need to provide a convenient dress code for pregnant teachers when they engage in teaching activities and according to these recommendations the minister has decided to introduce this concept to the school system.

Retirement of Mr. S.U. Wijeratne, Additional Secretary (Policy Planning and Performance Review) Ministry of Education

Completing a service par excellence of more than 35 years for the General Education system of Sri Lanka as well as for the younger generation exceeding four million, teachers exceeding two hundred and thirty thousand, officers in Principals’ Service, Teacher Educator Service and Sri Lanka Education Administrative Service, Mr. S.U. Wijeratne, Additional Secretary, Policy Planning and Performance Review shall officially conclude his unparalleled service extended with great love, respect and a wider perception, on 16th March 2018 and retire from the government service. We wish him every happiness in his retirement.
