The distribution of the relief package consisted of uniforms and textbooks by the ministry of education to the school children affected by the disaster situation are started. Immediate measures to rebuild all damaged school buildings

todayThe distribution of special relief package provided by the ministry of education for restarting the educational activities of the school children who were drastically affected by the recent disaster situation was started today (23) with the patronage of The Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam.

At this occasion The Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam stated that an estimate report has already prepared about all damaged school buildings and equipment due to the disaster and it has been planned to rebuild all those buildings in a high standard and to provide necessary equipment under the “nearest school is the best school program”. These plans have submitted to the cabinet for necessary approval.

The relief package issued by the ministry of education to the disaster affected school children under the directions of The Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam consists of three sets of uniform cloths, voucher for shoes, textbooks, set of question papers of last five years and exercise books. In addition to this, the items such as school bags, lunch boxes, water bottles, clothes, exercise books and hygienic items donated by the national schools and business institutions are also included in this relief package.

Accordingly, the ministry of education has been able to provide a relief package which contains the items worth of 10,000 rupees to each child affected by the disaster. In addition to this, the exercise books bought using 5 million rupees that was obtained on a request of The Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam from the ministers and MPs of the government parliamentarians’ group also included in this package.

The number of school children suffered from this disaster situation is more than 60,000 and the necessary actions have already been taken to provide this relief package to all these students.

today2The distribution activities will be implemented according to an arrangement in which the teachers and students of some selected schools in the island take and hand over this package to their schoolmates affected by the disasters. Accordingly, this distribution process started from today will be continued during the next week also with the involvement of school boys and girls. In parallel to this, the schools engaged in this distribution activity have also been instructed to organize special programs to reduce the mental stress of the students affected by the disaster.today3

A gathering including the Secretary of Education, the State Secretary of Education, all Additional Secretaries, officers of the ministry and heads of institutions had joined in this occasion.
