The 14th Summit of World Young Buddhist Monks Council is held this time in Sri Lanka

youthThe arrangements have been made to hold in grand scale the 14th Summit of World Young Buddhist Monks Council in Sri Lanka this time. The Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam holds the chairmanship of its management committee and there was a special discussion today morning (19) at the Apegama premises about the arrangements of holding the summit. It has been planned to take place the proceedings of this summit at the Bandaranayaka Memorial Conference Hall, Provincial Council Conference Hall at Pallekelle, Kandy and Millawana Maha Vidyalaya, Galewela from 27th to 30th October. This summit is held in Sri Lanka for the third time in which about thousand young Buddhist priests belonging to the sects of Therawada, Mahayana, Thanthrayana, Wajrayana and Sen around the world. So far this summit has been held in Malaysia, Thailand, Australia, Japan, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium and the United States of America since the first summit held in Nepal in 2004.

youth1The young priests participating in this summit do the necessary affairs through this summit to provide assistance for Dhamma propaganda activities and the development activities of shrines and temples. It is a significant change this time the holding of the summit in rural areas which was held in urban areas in the past according to a suggestion made by The Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam. Accordingly all the arrangements have been made to hold the final function of this summit at Millawana Maha Vidyalaya, Galewela under the patronage of The President and The Prime Minister. The minister also instructed the officials to develop the Millawana school with all the facilities for this purpose. For this occasion a group including The Director General of The World Young Buddhist Monks Council Rev. Mugunuwela Anuruddha Thera, The Vice President of Sri Lanka National Council of The World Young Buddhist Monks Council Rev. Disakaduwe Somananda Thera and The Secretary of Sri Lanka National Council of The World Young Buddhist Monks Council Rev. Menikhinne Dheerananda Thera attended.
