Everything is ready for the distribution of relief package including uniforms and textbooks to the school children affected by the disaster situation

The Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam instructed the officers recently to take necessary actions for issuing a special relief package to restart the educational activities of the school children who suffered from the disaster situation.

Accordingly, the ministry of education has taken steps to provide a relief package which contains the material worth of nearly 10,000 rupees to all affected children. The national schools and leading business institutions have joined with the ministry of education for this program. The donations of material collected by the national schools throughout the country were brought to the ministry of education since last Wednesday. The last stage of sorting out and re-packaging of these items for distribution is being done at the moment.

Professor Prashantha Bandula Mandawala takes up duties as the new Director General of the Department of Archeology

Professor Prashantha Bandula Mandawala assumed duties recently (06) as the acting Director General of the Department of Archeology. He is a past pupil of the Ananda College, Colombo and has studied in local and foreign universities such as Moratuwa University, York University in England, and Tonhide University in Norway.

He has joined the field of Archeology by 1981 and has served in different sections of the field of Archeology holding several designations. Professor P.B. Mandawala has also served as the head of the Faculty of History and Archeology at the University of Sri Jayawardanapura.

The minister of education tours Pahiyangala and calls for a multi-disciplinary report on the possible landslide risk from the relevant officers.

 
 
 
 
The Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam instructed the relevant officers to call for a multi-disciplinary report about the historical Pahiyangala cave that has been endangered with landslide. The minister gave these instructions after visiting the Pahiyangala cave recently (04) and observing the present situation of the premises and also after considering the information revealed at the discussions held with the subject experts and the officers. Accordingly, the measures have been taken to obtain this report immediately connecting the experts from several subjects such as Archeology, Engineering, Architecture and Geology. This report is scheduled to be taken by joining the experts of several subjects such as Archeology, Engineering, Architecture and Geology.
